My name is Nichole Lim, and I’ve been a part of The Anchor since 2006. My first Anchor service was on April 23rd of that year. I moved to Nashville literally the week before, and my new roommate—and basically everyone in the Christian underground—went there. My little emo kid heart was definitely at home. I remember my now-husband, David, was leading worship that day, which is just a fun little fact.
I love to set the table for people. I find such joy in leading worship—opening my heart to hear what God is doing and singing it out over my community has been one of the greatest gifts of my life. I also lead and teach the kids in worship and class, again setting the table for their little souls to learn how to commune with God together. At the end of the day, however it looks, I want to help create space for people to meet with Jesus.
The Anchor, to me, has always been a safe place to be yourself—even if you’re not sure who that is. It’s a home for people at every point in their journey, where questions aren’t just allowed—they’re welcomed. Deconstruction isn’t something to move past, it’s often just part of the process. What holds us is a deep love for Jesus, a hunger for what’s real, and the steady trust that the Spirit is always moving—even in the tension.
I grew up going to church, so Sundays were a no-brainer for me. But I kept going throughout my entire adult life because of the community, the people, and the fervency with which we all want God.
We need Jesus. And at its core, that’s The Anchor. We just know we need Jesus—and we want to do it together.
